چکیده

Abstract. Domestic wastewater effluents are one of the main sources environmental contaminants such as nutrients. Wastewater has been treated with biological processes for over a century to remove contaminants. Conventional treatment plants continue struggle meet Malaysian discharge limits. Stringent regulation enforced by governing authorities makes it obligatory comply guidelines fulfill ammonia and nitrate levels. To assist system in meeting these limits, is recommended that submerged attached growth Palm Oil Clinker (POC) can be incorporated into conventional system. The study was conducted continuous attach activated sludge which evaluated (CSAR). A basket installed aeration tank reactor submerge (POC). Two identical reactors were operated each (A) referred media while (B) control. studies carried out at various influent flow rates between 5 30 L/d, constant organic load rate OLR. Parameters NH4-N, NO3-N, monitored. Generally, Ammonia Nitrate highly removed. At all conditions (5-30 L/d), maximum minimum NH4-N removal 92% 85%. experimental data validated through well-established mathematical bio-kinetic models First order model, Monod models. kinetic coefficients R2 first-order model substrate 0.97 Ammonia. steady-state fitted both obtained flowrate. Monod's appropriate describing results terms microbial parameters. (0.984) Ks 303 Ammonia, respectively. While µmax 10 g/L.d

A Comparative Study of the Efficiency of Granular Activated Sludge and Common Activated Sludge in the Removal of Chromium (VI) from Synthetic Solutions

Introduction: Aerobic granules as a novel type of bio-sorbent have an excellent settling ability and high-porosity structure. This study investigated the feasibility of aerobic granules for chromium (VI) removal from synthetic aqueous solution and compare it with conventional activated sludge. Method: In this research the effect of some important parameters including pH (5, 7, and 9), initial c...

Continuous removal of chromium from tannery wastewater using activated sludge process—Determination of kinetic parameters

The activated sludge has been acclimatized with chromium (VI) ions from 5 mg/L to 20 mg/L. It is observed that the chromium removal percentage, COD removal and mixed liquor suspended solid (MLSS) decrease with the increase in dilution rate. Maximum food to microorganisms ratio (F/M) is found to be 0.19. When initial metal ion concentration increases from 5 mg/L to 20 mg/L, the chromium removal ...

Performance Evaluation of the Extended Aeration Activated Sludge System in the Removal of Physicochemical and Microbial Parameters of Municipal Wastewater: A Case Study of Nowshahr Wastewater Treatment Plant

Introduction: Extended aeration activated sludge system has a lower sludge production than other activated sludge processes. Due to its high hydraulic retention time (HRT), the tolerance of this process is higher than the shocks caused by increased organic loading rate. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the aeration system in removing physicochemical and mi...
